Trespassing

I'm taking a black and white photo class, but the colors in this truck made me run back to the car to get my digital camera. I don't think black and white could quite do it justice! I'm really excited to see what I got on film. Yes.. film.... More digital photos on my flickr.

My cohort, Jason, got some cool photographs from this area as well! Thanks for braving the snow storm and back roads of Missouri with me!

Carnival Lights up Boone County Fair

The Carnival from Chelsea Sektnan on Vimeo.

Prize goats, pageants, tractor pulls and country cured ham competitions are all popular events at the Boone County Fair. One of the more popular evenings at the fair is wristband night. It's an evening when families, lovers and friends can get together for an inexpensive evening of adrenalin, fair games and good family fun.

Obama visits Columbia MO

I was sent to cover the Obama visit in Columbia, Mo for the Boone County Journal. It was my first political rally, which was pretty exciting. I was even more excited to be able to photograph it. I didn't have the proper lenses for this project, but I got a few shots that I like. Not only did I get to see Obama, but I also got to meet some members of the traveling press. I also got to go up in the Genie to take pictures from above. It was such a great experience! I can't wait to do it again. I didn't think I would enjoy it that much, but I really did. I love all the opportunities we have in Columbia to make fun pictures and to be able to practice at such great events.

Finally a Photojournalist!

My first week being in the Missouri School of Journalism has finally started! So far it has been more fun than I could have ever imagined! All of my classes are pretty exciting, and my photojournalism class in particular has already taught me so much. I'm excited to expand my knowledge of photojournalism. It's kind of exciting to think what kind of photographer I will be when I get out of the school. I don't even know! I guess I'll figure it out, and if you read my blog, you will too!

I will update this blog periodically with work from my photojournalism class, and also with my work from the Boone County Journal in Ashland.

Keep checking in!

Last weekend I took photographs of the rodeo in Ashland. It was fun, but also a little difficult. I had to figure out ISO a little better, and I don't know how to do ISO very well. I learned so much from this experience! Please comment on my photographs from this event, I really need to know how to make them better, and I need to figure out how to do a better job next time. I know that I need to have a lower apature, but it was difficult with a 3.5 18-135 zoomed all the way out. I kept the ISO at 1600 for most of the event, which made many of my photographs too grainy. How do I prevent this? Can I?
